My name is Matt Kemp, I hope you enjoy reading my fishing diary. Just some short accounts of fishing on my local rivers (usually the Derbyshire Derwent or the Trent). I try to keep this diary updated as often as possible, and I do go fishing quite often. If its not been updated it probably means I've not been fishing.

Barbel Adventures end of season fish-in. Out of 9 fishing, only 1 fish made an appearance and not a barbel in sight...congratulations Leyton.

05/03 Derwent
After the lord mayors show or summit like that...
No perch from my swim that always looks good but never produces, moved down to leaf city in the hope of a chub when it got dark. Struggled to even catch leaves.

Rivers back up by 2 or 3 foot again...and not very warm. One bite in 3 hours fishing. Not a bad result for me this season.

20/02 Derwent
A return to my good area for perch fishing from last season. Another blank though. My excuse is that I had to leave early, water was too cold, too coloured, I was wearing the wrong hat etc etc.

14/02 Derwent
Ended up in my 3rd choice of venues. No fish, no bites, packed up early, no confidence.
In hindsight wish I'd fished one of my 1st choice venues.

13/02 Derwent
Different swim and tactics on the same stretch as Weds. Didn't work. Tried fishing slightly further out under a tree rather than close in next to a bush. Had to fish 'til 6:20pm for a 2lb chub.
At least it wasn't a blank, and I enjoyed the footy on the radio.

10/02 Derwent
A change of venues and ended up catching a change of species. Don't think I've caught a trout since the last one I had from this stretch a few years ago. This was definately a different fish as it was a bit smaller. And I ate the last one.
Was actually after perch and did miss a couple of bites on floatfished worm. Have got a plan and a different swim in mind for when I return there. Just hope the weather doesn't deteriorate too much.

03/02 Trent
Wanted another go at the Derwent perch but river conditions dictated otherwise, drove to the Trent hoping for lower, clearer water...
Ended up siting under my brolly in the rain/ sleet/ snow barbel fishing for a couple of hours with a predictable result

30/01 Derwent
Not been able to do much (well any really) perch fishing this winter due to weather and river conditions.
To be honest, todays conditions too sunny and river too coloured for my liking. Stuck it out for this one just after 5pm, 2lb 13oz...a real fattie
More perch fishing coming up during this next cold snap I think...

Went out on my lunch break looking for my lost net, some dog walker must have picked it up. Can't imagine anyone going fishing in those conditions...
Anyway, went out for a couple of hours later on and snared my 1st barbel of the year, well 2 actually. Wouldn't usually take a photo of barbel this size but I ain't caught any for a while...these pair were only about 6 and 3lbs (at 17:45 and 18:30).

21/01 Trent
The swim I'd fancied on the Derwent didn't look as good as I'd hoped, river was up and charging through so decided to head to the Trent.
On arriving at the trent discovered I'd lost my new landing net whilst looking at the Derwent...
Only a bit up and quite a managble ammount of rubbish coming down. No fish...

16/01 Trent
Went back to the same stretch as previous night but river has shot up. Did have a couple of casts but river rancid with debris. Sky Sports Soccer Saturday was a much better option.
Had got even higher by Sunday although didn't fish it. Watched the footy again.

15/01 Trent
Slightly improved temperatures, sat at home at 8pm and Eastenders on the tele...8:48pm and I'm on the riverbank, sat down both rods in.
May even have had a bite although could have been weed, wind, my imagination...only lasted an hour and a half
