30/01 Derwent

Not been able to do much (well any really) perch fishing this winter due to weather and river conditions.
To be honest, todays conditions too sunny and river too coloured for my liking. Stuck it out for this one just after 5pm, 2lb 13oz...a real fattie
More perch fishing coming up during this next cold snap I think...

29/01 Trent

A rare foray to the Upper Trent and a familiar result

The fact that theres more photos of animals than fish going up must say something

I think this ones a baby otter...

27/01 Derwent

Same swim as Friday, rivers dropped a lot and a different result

Tried worm, pellet and a deadbait but not even a knock

Made a new friend called Donald...

22/01 Derwent

Went out on my lunch break looking for my lost net, some dog walker must have picked it up. Can't imagine anyone going fishing in those conditions...

Anyway, went out for a couple of hours later on and snared my 1st barbel of the year, well 2 actually. Wouldn't usually take a photo of barbel this size but I ain't caught any for a while...these pair were only about 6 and 3lbs (at 17:45 and 18:30).

21/01 Trent

The swim I'd fancied on the Derwent didn't look as good as I'd hoped, river was up and charging through so decided to head to the Trent.

On arriving at the trent discovered I'd lost my new landing net whilst looking at the Derwent...

Only a bit up and quite a managble ammount of rubbish coming down. No fish...

16/01 Trent

Went back to the same stretch as previous night but river has shot up. Did have a couple of casts but river rancid with debris. Sky Sports Soccer Saturday was a much better option.

Had got even higher by Sunday although didn't fish it. Watched the footy again.

15/01 Trent

Slightly improved temperatures, sat at home at 8pm and Eastenders on the tele...8:48pm and I'm on the riverbank, sat down both rods in.

May even have had a bite although could have been weed, wind, my imagination...only lasted an hour and a half

13/01 Trent

Fancied a spot of chub/ barbel fishing on the Derwent for a change however...Borrowash tackle was shut and my 2nd choice of shop was out of maggots. Change of plan as he had some decent looking deadbaits and bought what the guy in the shop assured me were 'lucky roach'. 50 yards down the road and my lucky roach safely in the car and some idiot crashes into me. Fortunately he came off worst...

Anyway, blanked again.

10/01 Trent

Same swim, same tactics, same result. Obviously I'm not a quick learner...

Somewhere else next time methinks.

Saturday, 9 January 2010

09/01 Trent

Hedged my bets fishing deadbaits and a worm.

Blanked with both...

Spot the robin (not many fish to photo at the mo).

03/01 Trent

Last holiday session for this Xmas...back to work tomorrow

One pike of about 7 or 8lbs

River level had fallen a couple of feet since the other day but very cold

Thursday, 31 December 2009

31/12 Trent

River has risen another foot or so since yesterday, opted to fish the same swim though

Decided it was too boiley after the 1st hour and a half and moved to the next one up which looked a bit calmer.

Normal service resumed, just caught a few sticks and other assorted debris...

30/12 Trent

Perch fishing trip cancelled due to an excess of cold dirty water in the rivers, zander fishing on the Trent instead

2 zander, about 3lbs and 5lbs

Nice to actually catch fish for a change

26/12 Derwent

Reeled in something about 12 inches across, flat and round.

It was black in colour and had a hole in the middle, I was wondering if it could be a record?

Not really...blanked again

21/12 Derwent

Not been out for a while so thought I'd put in an appearance...

Feel much better for 1 1/2 hours of sitting in the cold

A fish would have been a nice bonus though

Friday, 11 December 2009

11/12 Derwent

Spent 1/2 an hour catching leaves at my 1st choice of venue before heading elsewhere. Then deceided to go somewhere else...

One small barbel @ 17:15, at least it ends my run of blanks

Had put this area down as one to fish for barbel later on in the season, glad I got round to it eventually and that it does hold at least one barbel. Will be giving another go at some point...

09/12 Dove

Unsurprising Dove blank...to be honest wasn't expecting to catch anything anyway

At least I didn't go home dissapointed

Sunday, 6 December 2009

06/12 Trent

Successfully completed my hat-trick of blanks

Trent burst its banks giving me the excuse I needed to go home

Didn't fall over

Saturday, 5 December 2009

05/12 Trent

Nice to catch leaves somewhere else for a change...

No fish

Only fell over once...

Friday, 4 December 2009

04/12 Derwent

Tried upstream of Wednesday for 1 stick, some leaves and a lost feeder.

Moved downstream but just caught leaves.
